By the end of 1949, the occupation of South Korea by the United States and the occupation of North Korea by the Soviet Union resulted in war that commenced on June 25, 1950. The North Korean army invaded South Korea by crossing the 38th parallel. Only on July 27, 1953 did North and South Korea come to an agreement by signing an armistice.
