1900-1929
The early 1900’s was a time of economic expansion and growth of business. This led to a prosperous middle class but it also resulted in high levels of urban poverty for recent immigrants and rural families who moved to the cities in hopes of finding a better life. To combat these problems a group of reformers known as the progressives worked to; make business more socially responsible; expand the right to vote to women; improve working conditions; combat government corruption; and prohibit the consumption of alcohol.
