NAACP activist Rosa Parks was arrested in Montgomery, AL for violating a city ordinance and Alabama state law by refusing to give up her seat on a municipal bus to a white man. Her decision inspired the Montgomery Bus Boycott which lasted for 381 days. (Roberts and Klibanoff, 109)
