Spanish American War 1898

The Spanish American War in 1898 began due to an accidental explosion on the USS Maine in the Havana Harbor. This U.S. ship was stationed there due to the passion the American people had for the Cuban people attempting to earn freedom from Spain. The explosion was accredited to Spain and they declared war on the United States in April 24, 1898 and the U.S. followed suit on April 25. The one-sided war against Spain only lasted until August 12, 1898.
