Voting 2

The first presidential election in the United States of America under the new United States Constitution, took place from December 1788 until January 1789. There was no agreement reached on federal voting standards. States were given the right to regulate their own voting laws. In most states voting rights were restricted to property owners. In this election, George Washington was unanimously elected for the first of his two terms as president, and John Adams became the first vice-president.
